Rt Hon Sir Alan Haselhurst, MP:  PRESIDENT

Councillor Eric Hicks, Chairman:  Eric became Chair of CVS in October 2008 after spending 2 years as our co-opted representative from Uttlesford District Council. His business career path was in the field of sales and marketing and in general management.  He served as a Director on the boards of several international companies marketing consumer durable products.   He has represented the Barnston and High Easter Ward on Uttlesford District Council for the past six years, and is Chairman of the Licensing Committee.

Jill Palmer: Vice Chair.  Jill is our longest serving Trustee with a wealth of experience of the work and management of the voluntary and community sector.  She is Group Manager for Essex Libraries.

Jill Elms: A lawyer, Jill is a long term resident of Uttlesford, currently working for Uttlesford CAB.

Professor Peter Fentem:  Peter moved to live in Great Chesterford in 1997.  He had previously worked in Nottingham in a series of University and honorary NHS consultant posts, including as Dean of Nottingham University Medical School - final post was that of the Stroke Association's Professor of Stroke Medicine.  Peter served as a Trustee of The Stroke Association and of Age Concern Essex until 2008.  He is current chairman of the Great Chesterford Parish Council and Chairman of Uttlesford Over Sixties Association and of Saffron Walden and District Stroke Club.   Peter was previously a Non-Executive Director of Uttlesford PCT.

Jane Laing:   Jane is the  retired Head of the Friends' School in Saffron Walden. She now works in many different capacities, one of which is as Chair for Volunteer Centre Uttlesford.

Doug Mason:   Doug joined the Board in 2009 having retired from the construction industry, which took him and his family around the world.  He is Chair of West Essex Mind, a charity dedicated to supporting people in the local community who experience mental health concerns.


Tony Middleton:  Tony joined the Board in 2008.  Tony's previous career was in the NHS and Local Government Social Care, mainly working in mental health. He more recently moved to the voluntary sector, joining the Alzheimer's Society and during this time worked closely with other voluntary sector charities and CVS Uttlesford. In addition to his interest in improving services for people with health and social care needs, Tony holds the view that the environment and communities play a significant part in our wellbeing. He is currently employed by a Charity campaigning to protect the rural countryside in Essex, which also promotes sustainable rural communities

David Westcott, MBE: David spent most of his working life in distribution management and took early retirement from soft drinks company, Britvic, based in Chelmsford. He was appointed a magistrate in 1989 and was also a non-executive Director of the old North West Essex Health Authority until 1993. He represented Dunmow South on the District Council for 12 years and was leader of the Council in 1990. He went on to represent the Dunmow Division on Essex County Council for 10 years and during his last year before standing down he was the Cabinet Member for Environmental Management and Trading Standards. David is currently Chairman of The Maltings Preservation Trust in Dunmow and President of the Dunmow Day Centre.

John Willoughby : John is currently the manager of Stamford Citizens Advice Bureau and was previously manager at Uttlesford CAB. Prior to joining the CAB John had a career in Banking, working for Barclays Bank in East Anglia for 28 years. John has also served on the Trustee Boards of Braintree and District CAB and also Victoria Road Community Centre in Cambridge
